Packaging Accuracy Is a Competitive Advantage

As a shopper, it’s hard to think of packaging without considering branding and visual identity. Smart brands make packaging a full aspect of the product discovery and experience

This makes sense. After all, the packaging is the first experience a customer is going to have of your product. As such, the color, font, and material(s) used will greatly influence the perception of the brand.

So, in crowded markets, more and more brands are thinking outside the box to create unique packaging experiences that people can’t forget. Falling in love with a product starts with the unboxing.

But that doesn’t mean the purpose of a packaging stops at aesthetics alone. In fact, packaging accuracy is a crucial function that the packaging design needs to fulfill too.

The Responsibilities of Your Packaging

Modern packaging has to contain a range of mandatory information, depending on the product you sell.

This can include:

  • Expiration dates
  • Batch number(s)
  • Shipping identifiers
  • Compliance information
  • Traceability codes

This is tightly regulated by both industry-relevant and region-specific regulations.

For consumers, not every bit of information is valuable, but most people still expect packaging to answer important queries clearly. This is particularly true for packaging in the food, healthcare, cosmetics, and even personal care sectors.

Clear labels and readable information are met with a positive sentiment. Businesses can already start winning the trust of customers just with an accurate packaging solution. There are, of course, many other factors that will be considered when it comes to winning customers over, but your packaging is one of them that can’t be ignored.

The Cost of Small Errors

What happens if the information printed on the packaging isn’t correct?

While errors may seem minor, they can have hefty consequences. Incorrect expiration dates, for example, can lead to unsold products, assuming they are shipped and not thrown out in the warehouse.

Unreadable product codes or missing identifiers will interfere with inventory tracking, and ultimately shipping princesses too.

If you are dealing with packaging in a regulated industry, this will also trigger compliance concerns. This can translate into fines, products being removed from circulation (whether temporarily or permanently), and even a brand finding itself excluded from the market.

Besides, there will be operational costs associated with these issues, as businesses need to reprint packaging and arrange for shipping again.

The Tech Behind Packaging Accuracy

Packaging accuracy is a lot more complex than it may seem at first. In a day and age when businesses rely on automation and digital systems for their production lines, manufacturers need to use advanced marking solutions to apply product information accurately and consistently throughout the process.

These solutions are designed to comply with all packaging information requirements across all industries. But they are also a key factor of traceability, which enables a manufacturer to trace their product through complex supply chains.

This further showcases the need for packaging accuracy to ensure that your product comes in a package compliant with the relevant regulations and compliant with logistics strategies across multi-location supply and warehousing sites.

In conclusion, packaging requirements are bringing a new twist to the full unboxing experience. Beautiful packaging may be the first thing that customers want to record on social media. But accurate packaging is what made the unboxing experience possible in the first place.
