Social media marketing is an extremely complex, somewhat time-consuming process. Putting an effective social media marketing plan in place is enough to make “your head blow up.” So says Guy Kawasaki in his new book “The Art of Social Media.”
Guy and I worked together at Apple when I was doing the end of life of the Apple ///; it was important to insure the 500+ hardware and software developers survive after we shut down the Apple /// product line. I passed them off to Guy to make sure they successfully moved their investments over to the Macintosh. At that time it demonstrated how much Apple cared about its developers. Guy is spot on in his new book, and even B2B product marketing managers can learn a lot from it.
If your social media marketing plan has a detailed structure, thorough planning, and flawless implementation, it will produce continuous results.
At the heart of social media marketing is a series of “signals” of what people “like,” “share” and tweet–guiding the search engines to rate and rank what content is more relevant than others. Additionally, if your product fits their needs, customers (and potential customers) will share and promote your products to their circle of friends and/or colleagues. Hence the power of social media.
