How To Improve Your Focus During The Working Day

If you’re looking to identify the keys to success as a business owner, then you need to look not just at how you organize the business, but also how you manage your own productivity, efficiency, and output. Your ability to remain focused and plugged in throughout the day can greatly affect your effectiveness as a leader, but how do you manage it? Here are a few tips to take with you through the workday.

Take Strategic Breaks

The nonstop grind is not going to make you a leader who gets more results; it’s going to make you a leader who experiences burnout all the easier. We know that you can’t keep up optimal attention and focus for more than 90 minutes at a time of concentrated effort. The Pomodoro method has become a lot more popular lately for that reason. Many find that 25 minutes of work with a 5-minute break to recharge and refresh can be highly effective for sustaining their output throughout the day.

Get Moving

Physical activity throughout the day isn’t just good for your body; it’s good for your brain. Even short bouts of exercise during the day, like a brisk walk, stair climbing, or a few minutes of dynamic stretching, increase blood flow to the brain and release neurochemicals that improve your memory, attention, and alertness. It also helps to control stress hormones, which can help you stave off burnout.

Fuel Your Body

Good nutrition, relying on whole foods rather than quick processed snacks, helps maintain your brain health and energy levels throughout the day. However, some have found success in using supplements such as sulbutiamine for focus and vitality to improve their output through the day, when used responsibly. It’s important to keep in mind that supplements should complement exercise, diet, and rest, and not act as a replacement for other healthy habits.

Optimize Your Environment

Your workspace affects your focus, too. If you have a cluttered desk, noise from the surrounding environment, poor lighting, or an uncomfortable seating arrangement, then you’ll begin to feel the tolls of distraction and discomfort before too long. Create a more organized workspace and focus on improving the ergonomics, be it through investing in a lamp to improve your lighting, getting a chair with real back support, or even using a standing desk to avoid being too sedentary.

Manage Your Tasks With Intention

Business owners tend to have a lot more on their plates than they can deal with at once. You might not be able to get through your entire to-do list for the day, but by taking a few minutes to organize your day in the morning, you can make sure that you’re blocking out time to focus on what should be your highest priority. Simply tackling tasks as and when they come can quickly find you falling behind.

Being able to maintain your focus isn’t simply about buckling down and keeping your nose to the grindstone. It’s about investing time in self-care and strategizing how effectively you use the time you have.
