Product Manager
A product manager should be pulling together the product’s MARKET strategy or plan. Only one of the tasks running from understanding what the customer wants to “do”, to the product’s value proposition, positioning, pricing strategy and about 30 other tasks is understanding the technology and where the technology might be going in the future.
Technical Product Manager
But some companies think the technology part is so important that they give them the title of technical product manager. Hence they also get involved with the product’s architecture. If that is the case, then it is vital that the company also makes sure the other parts of the product market strategy also gets done.
I discuss more here: Should the Product Manager also be the (Pick One or More): Designer, Project Manager, UI Designer, Scrum Master, Janitor, Architect, and Designer: NOT! Or are you Leonardo Da Vinci?
