Wiley, a global provider of knowledge and knowledge-enabled services founded in 1807 that improves outcomes in research, professional practice, and education, has contracted with an industry leader, David Fradin, to author the world’s first textbook on “Foundations in Product Management” which will be out in early 2016.
David Fradin is a classically-trained Hewlett-Packard product manager who was recruited by Apple during its meteoric growth for his expertise in product management and product marketing management. Subsequently, he has brought to market over 75 products and services, written online and in-person product management training courses and has personally trained thousands worldwide. While at Apple, Fradin served as a peer while at the same management level as Steve Jobs.
What he learned at HP and at Apple were the brilliant fundamentals that enabled HP to grow 20% per year for 50 years until the mid-1990s and what has enabled Apple to grow to become the most valuable company in the world.
The book draws on his experience as well as his primary research on how every employee and organization should manage their products and services for maximum success. The book challenges the “status quo” and focuses on being customer-centric in a rapidly changing digital world as is full of innovative ideas of how management can increase the odds of product success which today is barely at 60%.
Many textbooks and college degrees exist on such topics as management in general and in operations, marketing, sales, support, manufacturing and engineering management. “Foundations in Product Management” will be the first textbook in the 80-year history of product management to focus exclusively on the product or service that serves as the revenue generator of any organization. Outstanding as a classroom text, this book is so thorough and detailed that it could be used by Colleges and Universities worldwide to form the basis for a University degree in Product Management.
